Travel Photography

Whats in the bag!

After spending more than 15 years working in hot studios shooting still life and food, its  now an absolute breath of fresh air to be commissioned for photographic assignments by magazines and advertising agencies around the world. Having flown on many airlines to many countries across the globe, I now like to think that the experience has helped me refine what I have to carry to enable me to cover these assignments.

Although, the bergen (number 28 above) weighs 48lb when fully loaded, I can leave certain items of equipment such as my laptop and battery chargers in the hotel room or car boot, the rest I will carry. I hope that this feature provides a small insight into the equipment I use to create images that either capture; lifstyle images, sell the latest trends or capture images that spark the flame which keeps us wanting to travel at home or abroad.

Please bear in mind, that this magazine article was put together in 2004, and obviously my equipment has since been up-graded. Mainly the D2H is now redundant and I now use a Nikon D3 and a D3x. I dont use a PC any more, this has been replaced with an Applemac MacBook. And the phone has now changed to a 16gig iPhone. I still use the 70-200 f2.8, but have replaced the other lenses for; 14-24mm f2.8, 17-70mm 2.8, 105mm macro f2.8, 300mm f2.8 VR.

Flytyers of the World Vol 3

 The making of Volume 3

I have already put together volumes 1 and 2. (See above slide show). These, especially the 1st, was, as always was the hardest, as there is absolutely nothing to work from. It's a blank canvas! No photography style, no typography, no colour styles, no layout to work from, all this has to be designed before anything is done.
