Steve shoots new catalogue for SASTA - Finland.
After a call came through to have a look at shooting a new catalogue for SASTA I brought my Vtech camera with me, and immediately headed to South Wales to meet the client and go through all the rough designs which where planned by the designers to make a new 42 page clothing catalogue.
Through experience I knew for a fact the all the visuals the designers had drawn, never come to reality on a location shoot. The only time designers sketches work through to the printed page are studio shoots where everything can be precisely controlled. However, in this case I just had to nod my head and go along with them. Although, I would try my best to keep the photoshoot looking as close to the designers visuals as possible.
The next day all the clothing was loaded into a Toyota Landcruser, 'which was to be used as a prop in the photos' and drove to a small pub which was to be our accommodation for the next 3 days near the outskirts of London. We also arranged to meet the selected models for the catalogue shoot. The London based Sandra Reynolds agency supplied; Tiffany Suchard, Beck Grayson, Steve Bullock and Tony Stuart. All experienced in this style of shoot. Our shoot location was the Churchill Shooting Grounds, which I was told had all the elements to make great photos.
The next morning proved to act typically British with an overcast drizzly day. I could see a worried look from my client. Not to worry as it was at least bright. and, after looking on the laptop at the first test shot proved to be fine. For the next two days we photographed all the clothing in many different locations around the shooting grounds. The light looked great and suited the outdoor clothing SASTA was manufacturing.
On the last evening in the pub we looked through the collection of images I had shot over the last couple of days on the macBook. My client was overwhelmed. I could see from his relief that he had promised his bosses that the big budget he had managed to squeeze from them would work. SASTA went on to gain many new UK accounts all over Britain with the aid of this new catalogue and point of sale store material.
