4 Square Miles

Volume 1. Landscapes - Edition is To be published in early winter 2024 or sooner... Only £20.00

Donna Nook’s unique diversity contained within its four square mile boundary remains a truly remarkable asset within the landscape of the British Isles. In this ultra-connected, noisy world, buildings are eating away and threatening our horizons. Documentary photographer Steve Thornton is concerned about the multiple threats that weigh on our landscapes. Steve has dedicated the last three years photographing the treasures of this panoramic landscape of the Lincolnshire coast. He hopes that the photographs within these pages do not become a record of a lost landscape.

The new booklet provides a narrative of images documenting Donna Nook within its four square miles. With Natural England, Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust & The Environment Agency’s guardianship there are acreages of lush carbon-capturing salt marshes, a 2000-strong resident rare grey seal colony, wild flowering sand dunes, marshes and meadows, huge migrating & resident bird populations, world war two defences including a hospital, pill boxes & prisoner of war camps and a fully operational Ministry of Defence live firing target range with top gun pilots flying billion-dollar aircraft.
