About the artwork

Print title; Wharncliffe Road Fish Pontoon. The Wharncliffe Road Fish Pontoon was an iconic site in the fishing town of Grimsby, bustling with activity every morning as enthusiastic fish merchants barrowed their freshly acquired fish from the early morning auctions to begin the process of filleting. The Grimsby dock tower is towering over the old fish pontoon, a symbol of the town’s rich fishing history. Unfortunately, this historic fish pontoon was demolished in the mid 90’s, to prepare the way for a new, multi-million-pound fish market that would comply with EU regulations. Despite the loss of this important part of Grimsby’s past, the town remains a significant centre for the UK’s fishing industry. Circa; 1989. 16″ x 20″ inches. Signed. Also available as a postcard.
